Sold for: £14
A collection of vintage diving and maritime equipment including Zelco and Champion examples in an aluminium chest. The lot features a twin-hose diving regulator with two long black corrugated rubber hoses and a central mouthpiece with a chrome-plated metal housing. Also included are two diving masks, one being a blue rubber oval model and the other a circular face mask with a metal rim and black rubber skirt. There are two pairs of rubber fins; one pair is black and carries an impressed mark to the underside reading ZELCO CORTEZ 42 44, while the second pair is blue-green and is marked HYDROMATIC CHAMPION and SUPERIOR FLOATANT. Further maritime items include four hand-blown green glass fishing floats, each encased in original knotted rope netting. Safety and apparel components consist of a red and blue buoyancy aid with a sewn label reading seago, a black plastic diving cylinder backplate with a black webbing harness and metal hardware, and an assortment of neoprene diving boots in red, blue, and black/orange, plus a pair of black diving gloves. The entire collection is contained within a large rectangular aluminium storage trunk featuring a hinged lid, front latch, and carry handles.
Condition report:
The equipment is in used vintage condition and is sold as a collector lot; the regulator and buoyancy aid have not been tested for functional safety. The rubber and neoprene components show age-related wear, including surface blooming on the black fins (photo 6) and significant oxidation and rust-like staining on the Champion fins (photo 7). The neoprene boots are heavily worn, showing frayed edges, peeling material, and holes, particularly to the red and black/orange pairs (photo 5). The regulator hoses appear intact but may be brittle. The glass fishing floats are intact without visible cracks, though the rope netting shows age-related fraying and discolouration (photo 8). The metal components of the masks and regulator show surface wear and minor pitting (photo 3). The aluminium trunk has numerous surface scratches, scuffs, and small dents consistent with utilitarian use (photo 1).
