A collection of UK and US bronze and cupro-nickel coins housed in a rectangular light-wood tray. The collection consists of a bulk quantity of United Kingdom currency, including pre-decimal pennies and halfpennies featuring the portraits of King George V, King George VI, and Queen Elizabeth II. Notable reverse designs include the seated figure of Britannia on the pennies and the Golden Hind sailing ship on the halfpennies. Decimal coinage is present, including 1p and 2p pieces, one of which is dated 1971, and a single round nickel-brass £1 coin. The lot also contains several United States cupro-nickel Roosevelt dimes. The coins exhibit various metallic compositions including bronze, copper-plated steel, cupro-nickel, and nickel-brass.
Condition report:
The coins are in circulated condition, exhibiting general surface wear, scratches, and heavy toning consistent with age and use. Significant green oxidation and verdigris are visible on numerous bronze pieces (photos 2 and 3). Some coins show evidence of heavy surface soiling and dark patination (photo 4). No third-party grading or professional cleaning is evident.
