Sold for: £26
This lot comprises a pair of two modern country style bedside chests of drawers. The units are constructed primarily from solid pine with a honey-toned finish, featuring three drawers each. The drawer fronts have rounded bullnose edges and are fitted with single, centrally-located turned wooden knob handles. Each chest is raised on four turned bun feet. The drawers are assembled with machine-cut joinery, and the secondary wood for the interiors and back panels also appears to be pine. A cream-coloured rectangular paper label is adhered to the reverse of one chest. It is printed in black with REF 44414, Order 3205, BEDSIDE CHEST, and pine cabinets. The label also features a handwritten squiggle in ink, possibly the initials CR. No other manufacturer’s name or retailer’s mark is legible on the furniture.
Condition report:
The chests show signs of domestic wear throughout. Multiple surface scratches, indentations, and water ring marks are visible on the top surfaces of both units (photo 2). There is significant staining and discolouration to the interior bases of the drawers, including blue and white marks (photo 7 and 11). Minor scuffs and wear to the lacquer finish are present on the frames, drawer edges, and around the feet (photo 3, 4, and 5).
