Sold for: £26
A Victorian style black-painted iron and brass double bedstead with a wooden slatted base. The bedstead comprises a matching headboard and footboard, each constructed with a framework of vertical and horizontal black-painted tubular metal spindles. Both sections feature a prominent central curved brass rail and are surmounted by four large, polished brass ball finials. The headboard is of a taller height than the footboard. The lot includes the headboard, footboard, two side rails, a complete pine slatted base, and the necessary metal fixing bolts for assembly. No manufacturer marks, stamps, or labels were found on the frame or slats. The bed is designed to accommodate a standard UK double mattress (4ft 6in). This lot comprises the bedstead and slats only; the wall-mounted items and background furniture shown in the photographs are not included.
Condition report:
The bedstead is in generally good condition with signs of cosmetic wear consistent with use. There are minor, scattered scuffs and small chips to the black-painted finish, particularly visible on the side rails and the lower sections of the legs (photos 1, 2, and 4). The polished brass decorative elements show light surface tarnishing (photo 3). One brass ball finial on the headboard features a visible dent (photo 3). The wooden slatted base appears complete and in good structural order. All necessary fixing bolts are present.
