A set of eight United Kingdom Royal Mint proof coin collections spanning the years 1980 to 1987. Each collection comprises the circulating decimal denominations of its year, typically including the half penny (until 1983), one penny, two pence, five pence, ten pence, twenty pence (introduced 1982), fifty pence, and one pound (introduced 1983). The 1986 collection features the commemorative Commonwealth Games two pound coin. The sets are struck in proof quality, exhibiting frosted relief against mirror-like fields. The 1980, 1981, and 1982 collections are housed in their original titled folders, while the 1983 to 1987 sets are presented in blue Royal Mint deluxe cases. Each set is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity or information card printed with the Royal Mint logo and the inscription United Kingdom Proof Coin Collection alongside the relevant year.
Condition report:
Iridescent peripheral toning is visible on the ten pence, five pence, and fifty pence coins in the 1983 collection (photo 2). Moderate peripheral oxidation is present on the fifty pence and one pound coins in the 1984 set (photo 5). The 1985 set shows light peripheral toning to the fifty pence coin (photo 8). Small brown spots are visible on the interior presentation card for the 1981 set (photo 12). The blue outer presentation cases show minor surface scuffing and shelf wear consistent with age (photo 1). The 1980 and 1981 folders are contained within secondary plastic bags for protection.
