Sold for: £22
A collection of vintage and mid-20th-century costume jewellery presented in a silver-tone display case. The lot features an assortment of brooches, three bracelets, one necklace, a tie bar, and a pair of cufflinks. The items are constructed from various materials including gilt and silver-tone base metals, copper-tone metal, and enamel. Decorative elements include faceted glass rhinestones in clear, coloured, and aurora borealis finishes, alongside faux pearls, mother-of-pearl, ceramic, and petit point embroidery.
Figural designs include a leaping leopard with black spots, a rhinestone-set swan, cats, and a large bumblebee brooch with a faceted amber-tone body and rhinestone-set wings. Floral and foliate motifs feature an enameled lily, gilt-metal rose and wheat-ear sprays, a multi-coloured ceramic flower bouquet, and a red enamel poppy. Geometric and traditional styles include a micro-mosaic link bracelet with floral patterns and a Celtic style circular brooch with an amber-coloured glass cabochon centre. A copper-tone rectangular relief brooch depicts a stag in a woodland setting. One brooch is formed as the initial N surmounted by a crown. No maker’s marks or signatures are clearly legible on the pieces. One brooch is shown from the reverse, but the stamping on the metal is not legible as a name.
Condition report:
The collection is in varied vintage condition. Visible defects include several rhinestone-set pieces with missing stones, notably the large amber-tone flower brooch and some smaller starburst designs (photo 1, 3). General surface wear, tarnish, and loss of plating to the base metals are visible across the collection (photo 4, 5). Minor enamel loss is present on the larger floral pieces (photo 8). The pin mechanisms on several brooches show slight bending but remain functional (photo 9).
