Sold for: £7
A Victorian style glazed earthenware pedestal jardiniere, comprising a large decorative bowl and a matching stand. The earthenware body is slip-cast, finished in a monochrome creamy-white glaze. The bowl features a flared rim with a rope-twist border situated above a fluted or gadrooned lower body. The accompanying pedestal stand mirrors this design with a matching gadrooned top and flared base, connected by a smooth, waisted central column. The base of the pedestal also incorporates a rope-twist edge detail. No maker’s marks, stamps, or signatures are visible on either piece. The underside of the pedestal is hollow, showing the internal casting.
Condition report:
The set shows clear evidence of previous use as a planter. Significant earth staining and mineral deposits are visible to the interior of the bowl (photos 1 and 2). The glaze exhibits fine crazing throughout. Small nicks and minor glaze chips are present on the sharp edges of the gadrooned decoration and along the rims of both the bowl and the pedestal base (photos 1 and 2).
