Lot 109: A Large Neoclassical Style Carved Simulated Marble Overmantel Wall Mirror

This auction ended on September 30, 2026.

Start price: £12

Estimated price: £12 - £20

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £10

A large wall-hanging overmantel mirror featuring a decorative frame with a shaped camelback or arched top rail. The frame is constructed from a molded composite material or resin, finished in a cream tone with a hand-applied orange-brown wash to achieve a simulated marble or alabaster effect. The inner border is decorated with a continuous relief molding in a traditional egg and dart pattern. The mirror plate is clear and appears to be a 20th-century piece designed in the Neoclassical style.

Condition report:

The frame exhibits several areas of surface discoloration and staining, notably appearing as orange-brown streaks and patches along the bottom rail and the top right curve (photo 1 and 2). There are minor surface scuffs, marks, and a layer of dust across the frame consistent with storage (photo 2). The mirror glass appears to be in good overall condition with no visible cracks, chips, or significant desilvering.
