Estimated price: £40 - £60

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £38

A Victorian open face pocket watch featuring a sterling silver case and a key-wind manual movement. The white enamel dial displays black Roman numeral hour markers, a railroad-style outer minute track, and a recessed subsidiary seconds dial at the 6 o’clock position. The dial is printed with the retailer name WEBBER LTD PLYMOUTH. The silver case features engine-turned engraving to the reverse with a central unengraved circular cartouche. The interior of the case back bears British hallmarks including the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard’s head for the London assay office, and the date letter ‘p’ corresponding to 1890. A serial number 57525 and the initials T.R in an oval are also present. The movement is protected by a hinged silver internal dust cover featuring a winding aperture. The watch is accompanied by a brass winding key decorated with a six-pointed star motif, attached by a length of twine to the suspension ring.

Condition report:

The white enamel dial shows several visible hairline cracks radiating from the centre and the subsidiary seconds dial area (photo 2 and 8). The subsidiary seconds hand is missing (photo 2). The hour and minute hands are present but show significant oxidation and tarnish (photo 3). The silver case displays heavy tarnish and surface wear throughout, with the engine-turned engraving on the reverse being notably worn (photo 4). The crystal is present but shows multiple surface scratches (photo 9). The mechanical condition is unknown, and the missing hand and general condition suggest professional servicing is required.
