This auction ended on September 30, 2026.

Start price: £40

Estimated price: £40 - £80

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £75

A set of five sterling silver decanter labels, each featuring a repoussé and chased border decorated with rococo style scrolls, acanthus leaves, and scallop shells. The group comprises five rectangular labels with a curved profile, each suspended from a matching silver belcher link chain. The central panels are hand-engraved with the titles ‘SHERRY’, ‘PORT’, ‘WHISKY’, ‘GIN’, and ‘BRANDY’ in serif capitals. Each label is struck with a series of British hallmarks including a rectangular cartouche containing the initials ‘AC & SS LD’, a lion passant, an anchor, and a lowercase ‘g’ in a shield. These marks correspond to the silversmiths Albert Cohen & Solomon Samuel, the Birmingham Assay Office, and the date letter for 1956.

Condition report:

The labels are in good vintage condition with surface scratching and scuffing consistent with age and regular polishing, particularly evident on the flat central panels of the \'SHERRY\' (photo 2) and \'GIN\' (photo 5) examples. There is light natural tarnish and patina located within the deeper recesses of the scrollwork decoration. All suspension chains and attachment rings are present and appear original to the pieces. No splits, thinning, or heavy dents are visible in the photographs.
