A collection of seven vintage glass soda siphons featuring acid-etched branding from various British and Australian aerated water manufacturers. Each vessel is constructed from heavy-gauge clear glass, with several examples featuring vertical ribbing. The bottles are fitted with molded plastic dispensing heads in various colours including black, pink, green, tan, white, and blue, each with a metal collar and a dispensing lever. The collection includes a siphon with an acid-etched bird graphic and text reading “TOLCHARDS SODA WATER TORQUAY”, and another with an elaborate rectangular label reading “WATERS & ROBSON MANUFACTURED FROM PURE ARTESIAN WELL WATER TRADE MARK ABBEY WELL MORPETH”. Australian interest is represented by a siphon marked “W. APPELT NURIOOTPA” with a central “WA” monogram, and a “BOON SPA PTY. LTD. MELBOURNE” example. Further British examples include a bottle listing awards such as “GRAND PRIX BRUSSELS 1910” for “DAWES GOLD MEDAL TABLE WATERS PAIGNTON”, and an oval-branded siphon for “ARNOLD PERRETT & CO. LTD. GLOUCESTER”. The group also features a Schweppes siphon with a circular etched mark for “SCHWEPPES (AUSTRALIA) PTY. LTD.” and a red and white printed shoulder label reading “SCHWEPPES SODA WATER”. Internal glass dip tubes are visible within the vessels.
Condition report:
The glass bodies appear in good structural condition with no visible cracks or major chips across the collection (photos 1-3). The acid-etched branding remains clear and legible on all examples. The plastic dispensing heads show typical age-related discolouration and a light accumulation of surface dust (photos 2 and 3). The red and white shoulder label on the Schweppes siphon remains largely intact with minor surface wear.
