A decorative Victorian style dome-top birdcage of mixed-media construction, featuring a dark-stained wood frame and base with scrolling wirework panels. The structure consists of a rectangular wooden base with a sliding galvanized metal tray, surmounted by a multi-tiered body with a large, spherical wirework dome. The dome is constructed from radial wire ribs interwoven with decorative scrolled wire patterns and is topped with a turned wooden finial and a metal hanging hook. The wooden components include turned corner pillars and shaped side braces. The base is fitted with a removable metal tray for cleaning. There are no visible maker’s marks, signatures, or labels on the exterior or the base of the item.

Condition report:

The birdcage appears in fair condition showing significant signs of age and wear. There are numerous broken or bent wires throughout the scrollwork (photo 1). Some oxidation and surface corrosion is visible to the metal surfaces (photo 4). The wood shows surface abrasions, dust accumulation, and small losses to the finish, particularly around the edges and joints (photo 2). One side panel shows a loose wire element (photo 3).
