Lot 322: A Collection of Inert Military Ordnance and Spent Cartridges including a Large Artillery Style Shell Case

This auction ended on September 30, 2026.

Start price: £5

Estimated price: £5 - £12

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £12

A collection of inert military ordnance and assorted spent ammunition components. The lot includes a large empty cylindrical metal shell case measuring approximately 30cm in length, along with a shorter, wide metallic cup-like component. Two ammunition belts are present: one large disorganized belt containing forty-nine cartridges in metal disintegrating links, and a smaller intact belt containing six cartridges. The group also features a cardboard box containing approximately twelve loose spent shell casings, adjacent to five additional loose casings and one fragmented, heavily corroded shell casing. The ammunition exhibits various calibres, with some rounds appearing consistent with .303 or 7.92mm types, though no specific manufacturer marks are legible. Most components exhibit significant oxidation, verdigris, and surface rust consistent with age and long-term storage. Note – As these are inert or spent components and not modern cartridge firearms, this lot does not require a background check.

Condition report:

The collection is in a varied, weathered condition consistent with age and storage. The metal components show widespread surface oxidation, pitting, and verdigris. The ammunition belts exhibit rust to the links and discolouration to the brass-coloured cases. One shell casing is heavily fragmented and corroded. The large shell case appears structurally sound but with surface wear and darkening. All cartridges appear to be inert or spent casings; however, we have not function-tested any components and they are sold for display purposes only.
