An antique English breakfront display cabinet or bookcase, likely dating from the early 20th century. The piece is constructed from oak, featuring a top surface with highly figured quarter-sawn tiger oak grain. The cabinet follows a traditional breakfront form with a low-waisted height and a solid wood panelled back. The front is fitted with four glass doors featuring geometric, hexagonal-based astragal glazing bars. The interior is divided into three sections: a central double-door compartment flanked by two single-door sections, all fitted with adjustable wooden shelving. The exterior is decorated with carved scrolling and foliate motifs along the top and bottom edges. The doors are equipped with decorative brass escutcheons and simple brass butt hinges. One door set includes a visible internal latch. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the interior, exterior, or reverse of the piece. This lot comprises the cabinet only.

Width: Approximately 131 cm
Depth: Approximately 35 cm.

Condition report:

The cabinet appears structurally sound. The oak top surface exhibits scattered light scratches, small gouges, and minor finish wear consistent with age (photos 4, 5, and 6). The solid wood back panels show typical age-related drying gaps between the vertical boards (photo 7). All glass panes and astragal bars appear intact. The brass hardware shows a natural aged patina. The interior shows heavy scuffing and finish loss to the base and shelving surfaces (photo 8).
