A collection of decorative objects and curiosities, primarily of European late 19th or early 20th-century style. The group includes a pair of novelty inkwells cast in a non-ferrous white metal, designed in the form of heavy cavalry stirrups. Each stirrup features a hinged top at the tread opening to reveal an internal well; one well retains a white ceramic or glass liner while the other is empty. The exterior surfaces are decorated with cast floral scrolls and foliate motifs, and the underside of one stirrup features a raised, cross-hatched diamond pattern. The collection also includes a glass beaker or shot glass with an applied gilt-metal badge of a double-headed imperial eagle, a porcelain figurine of a boy in 18th-century attire, and a porcelain group of seven pug dogs seated on a green base. Additional items comprise two cast metal owl figurines, a cast iron decorative bracket, a polished red agate slice, a cylindrical metal pen or seal holder with a green stone inset, and a small rectangular case with a stone-effect finish. Also included are two small portrait frames, one star-shaped and one circular pendant, containing photographs of a gentleman in early 20th-century dress.
Condition report:
The stirrup inkwells show significant surface oxidation, darkening, and wear to the plating (photo 1). One inkwell is missing its internal liner (photo 2). The underside of one stirrup shows remnants of a previously attached paper or felt backing (photo 3). The porcelain figurines exhibit minor abrasions to the painted finishes and surface dust (photo 4). The cast iron bracket shows some surface rust and general age-related wear (photo 5). The glass beaker and other small items appear to be in good order with only light handling marks visible.
