Sold for: £9
A plough-style boat anchor featuring a hinged shank, constructed from drop-forged steel with a galvanised finish. The anchor is equipped with a substantial length of heavy-duty, short-link galvanised mooring chain, which is attached to the head of the shank via a D-shackle. The side of the shank bears raised lettering that is partially worn; the characters C, Q and R are legible, followed by characters that appear to denote a weight in pounds which are not clearly legible due to surface corrosion. The pivoting shank mechanism is designed to allow the fluke to remain set regardless of changes in the vessel’s pull direction. The chain is composed of multiple heavy gauge links showing a weathered surface consistent with marine use.
Condition report:
The anchor and chain are in used, weathered condition. There is significant surface oxidation and heavy rust visible, particularly on the fluke and the lower portion of the shank (photo 1). The galvanised finish has worn away in multiple areas, exposing the underlying steel to corrosion. The pivoting hinge mechanism appears structurally intact but shows heavy surface rust and accumulation of debris (photo 1). The mooring chain is heavily weathered with surface oxidation throughout, though the links do not show significant thinning or structural failure.
