Start price: £8

Estimated price: £8 - £14

Buyer's Premium: 20%

This lot comprises three matching armchairs of mid-20th-century design, constructed from natural wicker and bamboo. Each chair features a barrel-shaped wrap-around backrest with integrated armrests, executed in a dense horizontal wicker weave. The front edges of the armrests and the top rail of the backrest are finished with a distinctive thick braided wicker rope detail. The seats are supported by four tapered cylindrical legs, likely solid wood or bamboo, which show natural horizontal graining. The internal structural framing consists of bamboo poles secured with cross-bracing and visible binding wraps at the intersections. A rectangular cutout is positioned at the base of the backrest just above the seat line. The chairs are finished in a natural light tan or honey-coloured tone.

Condition report:

The chairs are in good vintage condition with the wicker weave remaining largely intact and free from significant breakage. The tapered legs show minor surface scuffing and darkening near the feet (photo 1). One chair has a piece of brown packing tape wrapped around a rear structural brace which requires removal (photo 1).
