A collection of five spoons comprising three sterling silver salt spoons and two decorative souvenir spoons. The three salt spoons are designed in the Fiddle pattern and feature gilded vermeil bowls in shovel, round, and oval forms. The first spoon bears an impressed maker’s mark ‘I B’, alongside London assay hallmarks including a lion passant, leopard’s head, sovereign’s head duty mark, and the date letter ‘u’. The second spoon is struck with the maker’s mark ‘E H’ for Elizabeth Eaton, a lion passant, leopard’s head, duty mark, and the date letter ‘h’. The third spoon carries the maker’s mark ‘C B’ for Charles Boyton, a lion passant, leopard’s head, and the date letter ‘k’. The two souvenir spoons include one featuring a multi-coloured enamel handle with geometric motifs and a hand-painted enamel bowl depicting a coastal landscape, and another with a twisted wire-work handle, a cast ship in the bowl, and an enamelled shield finial reading ‘MALTA’.

Condition report:

All items exhibit significant surface oxidation and tarnish, particularly visible on the handles and the undersides of the bowls (photo 1 and 2). There is visible thinning and wear to the gold wash gilding within the bowls of the three salt spoons (photo 1). The enamel work on both souvenir spoons appears intact with no visible losses or cracks from the primary angles (photo 1). No visible breaks, bends, or professional repairs are evident to the metalwork of any item.
