This lot comprises two pieces of photographic equipment: a professional grade Durst D 659 enlarger and a separate contemporary copy stand. The Italian made enlarger is constructed from cast and sheet metal with a silver grey hammered finish and black enamel details. It features a twin lens turret and a sophisticated autofocus mechanism. A black metal nameplate on the head reads MADE IN ITALY / Durst D 659 / DOPPIO AUTOMATICO SINCRONO – SYNCHRONISED TWIN AUTOMAT / SYNCHRO DOPPEL AUTOMAT – AUTOMATIQUE BI-FORMAT SYNCHRONISÉ. The plate also records specifications for Opt. f = 5 cm and Opt. f = 10.5 cm alongside serial numbers 9943016, 245945, 2591, and 9841422. The unit includes a white baseboard, a vertical rack and pinion column, and two red safety filters. The negative carrier is marked DURST DUCON 70 UNONE 70 MADE IN ITALY. The enlarger is accompanied by a black hardshell carrying case with reinforced metal corners and a top handle. The separate copy stand features a grey laminate base and a black and silver column with a metric ruler. A sliding camera mount with a standard tripod screw is attached, and a power adapter with cables is included.
Condition report:
The Durst D 659 enlarger appears in well maintained vintage condition. The metalwork shows minor surface dust and light scuffs to the paint consistent with age. The white baseboard has some minor staining and surface wear (photo 3). Bellows appear intact and mechanical adjustments for height and focus operate smoothly. The electrical wiring, fitted with a UK three-pin plug, and the internal lamp are untested. The hardshell case shows external scuffing and wear to the edges. The copy stand is in excellent condition with minimal signs of use and an intact metric scale (photo 2).
