Sold for: £6
A large wall mirror featuring a rectangular frame constructed with a gilded finish. The frame is decorated in a traditional style with a wide band of scrolling acanthus leaf and floral relief work in a darkened, antiqued gold tone, bordered by plain burnished gold-tone moldings. The reverse of the frame is finished with a hardboard backing secured by adhesive tape around the perimeter. It is fitted for horizontal display with two metal D-ring fixings and a single tensioned hanging wire. The frame corners are mitered and no maker marks, labels, or signatures are visible on the object or its backing. This lot comprises the mirror only.
Condition report:
The mirror plate exhibits extensive and significant silvering loss, foxing, and oxidation, covering approximately 40% of the surface area (photo 1). This is particularly concentrated on the right-hand side of the glass, resulting in heavy grey and brown mottling. The gilded frame shows minor scuffs and surface wear to the edges (photo 1). On the reverse, the adhesive framing tape is aged and exhibits peeling in several areas (photo 2).
