Sold for: £6
A vintage dome top empty steamer trunk of early to mid-20th century style. The trunk is constructed from sheet metal, possibly tin or steel, with a textured brown exterior finish. The body features reinforced metal banding secured with decorative metal studs and corner reinforcements. The interior is finished in a uniform blue paint. The central hardware consists of a brass-toned metal latch and a square lock plate secured with four rivets. A continuous metal hinge runs along the back of the lid. This lot comprises the trunk only; the books, glassware, and other interior items shown in the images are not included.
Condition report:
The exterior metal cladding shows widespread surface rust, oxidation, and heavy patination across all surfaces (photo 1). There are visible scratches and areas of paint loss to the brown finish. The interior blue paint is worn, particularly across the base where significant white and grey scuffing and staining are present (photo 2). The metal banding and hardware show signs of tarnish and minor deformation consistent with age and travel use.
