Sold for: £60
A collection of seven antique and vintage wooden dining chairs featuring various English period styles. The group includes a set of three Regency style mahogany side chairs characterised by rope-twist carved top rails and horizontal splats; two are upholstered in a grey, purple, and green striped fabric, while the third is finished in a tan and cream stripe. The collection also features a George III style mahogany shield-back armchair with wheat-ear carvings to the central splats and out-swept arms, upholstered in a multi-toned orange and red striped fabric. Also present is a dark-stained George III style side chair with a pierced ladder-back design and cream floral upholstery. Completing the group are two Victorian side chairs, including a mahogany balloon-back example with a floral needlepoint-style seat and a mixed wood chair featuring a wavy zig-zag pattern seat. Construction across the collection utilises traditional mortise and tenon joinery. No manufacturer marks or labels are visible on the frames.
Condition report:
The collection is in as-found condition with various signs of wear across all pieces. One Regency style chair with the tan upholstery has a significant break to the rope-twist top rail, with the separated sections retained in a plastic bag (photo 4). The George III style shield-back armchair shows heavy finish loss and surface wear to both arms (photo 6). The Victorian side chairs exhibit significant surface abrasions and finish loss, particularly to the back rails (photo 1). General scuffs, scratches, and minor staining to the upholstery are visible throughout the group, consistent with age and use.
