This lot comprises two framed landscape works. The first is a watercolour on paper depicting a wooded path with sunlight filtering through mature trees, reflecting in rainwater puddles in the foreground. The work is executed in a soft, atmospheric style with a muted palette of greens, browns, and ochres. It is signed in the lower right H. Royston Walson. The watercolour is presented in a cream-coloured textured mount and a dark wood-effect frame with a gold-tone inner lip. The second work is a colour print or lithograph on paper depicting a rural scene with a stone cottage, tall trees, and a distant coastal view featuring a mount resembling St Michael’s Mount. The composition is detailed and illustrative. It is signed in the plate in the lower right S. J. Lamorna Birch. This work is housed in a simple white-painted wooden frame. Both items are glazed.
Condition report:
Both works are in good overall condition. The watercolour shows no immediate evidence of foxing or water damage (photo 1). The print appears well-preserved behind glass (photo 2). Both frames exhibit minor surface wear, including small scuffs and paint loss to the edges, particularly visible on the white-painted frame of the Birch print (photo 2). The mounts appear clean with no visible staining.
