A collection of vintage leather coin purses and an assortment of international and historical coinage, housed in a striped cardboard box. The group includes four distinct purses: a tan leather clip purse with a brass-tone metal frame, ball clasp, and cream satin-like lining; a black suede or nubuck zippered rectangular pouch with a metal zipper; a dark brown leather squeeze-frame or fold-over coin pouch; and a small, dark brown leather square folding purse decorated with gold-toned floral motifs.
The numismatic assortment includes coins from the United Kingdom, featuring a large bronze penny with a portcullis, a George VI era coin, and a copper-alloy coin with a Welsh leek. United States coinage includes several Lincoln cents, a Jefferson nickel, and a Washington quarter. Also present is a silver-coloured coin marked REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA 2$50 and a German coin marked BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND PFENNIG. The collection also contains a yellow and white enamel daisy-shaped token. Accompanying ephemera includes a paper fragment with handwritten ink notes reading JW Watkins, 100, 43.49 and £3.00, alongside a blue envelope segment marked COOKS.
Condition report:
The items are in used vintage condition. The tan leather purse shows surface scuffing to the exterior and light staining to the interior lining (photo 1). The black suede pouch shows surface wear and pilling consistent with use (photo 1). The coins exhibit varying degrees of circulation wear, oxidation, and toning; notable green verdigris is present on several copper-alloy coins, including a large coin in the bottom centre (photo 2). The paper ephemera shows creasing and edge wear.
