A collection of vintage and modern personal effects, games, and curiosities. This lot comprises an assortment of items including a set of three brass-barrelled darts with red plastic flights, housed in a cream plastic case with yellowed paper instructions for Q Flights mentioning Alwyn Mullins and Tommy Gibbons. A wooden sliding-lid box contains a set of light and dark wood chess pieces, featuring a handwritten inscription on the lid reading PROPERTY OF S. ETON and TO MUM + DAD FROM TERRY LOVE XMAS 1949. The collection further includes a copper-toned concertina-style mechanical corkscrew stamped with H.D. ARMSTRONG’S PATENT, a silver-tone open-face pocket watch with a white enamel dial and Arabic numerals, and an oval yellow guilloché enamel style case or compact with black scrolled borders. Also present are a glass magic lantern slide titled FAMOUS PICTURES OF THE WORLD, a framed miniature portrait of a figure in a red garment, a blue textured autograph book, and a long flat wooden paddle with two quatrefoil cutouts at the handle. A pair of modern black and grey binoculars with a neck strap is also included.
Condition report:
The yellow guilloché enamel case shows significant loss and damage to the enamel surface (photo 2). The wooden chess box and paddle exhibit surface scratches and signs of aging (photo 1). The paper instructions for the darts are yellowed and shows some creasing (photo 3). The pocket watch dial appears intact, though mechanical functionality is not tested (photo 2). The concertina corkscrew shows surface tarnish and oxidation consistent with age (photo 2). The blue autograph book displays wear to the edges of the cover (photo 3).
