A collection of studio pottery and decorated stones comprising various wheel-thrown and hand-built forms in stoneware and earthenware. The group features a tall baluster vase with a dark brown glaze and cream slip-trailed floral motifs, a spherical stoneware hedgehog money bank with a green incised quill texture, and a pedestal goblet finished in a pale blue and white tin glaze. Also included is a large shallow bowl with a brown and cream marbled agateware style glaze, a stylized badger figure, and several dark brown animal figurines. Three hand-painted river stones are present, one depicting a rabbit amongst yellow flowers and bearing the hand-painted signature J. S. Cliff to the lower edge. Other items include a variety of planters, jars, and a small ceramic structure resembling a lighthouse. The pieces exhibit a range of glazing techniques including slip-trailing, marbling, and mottled matte finishes. No other maker’s marks or signatures are visible on the bodies of the pottery.

Condition report:

The collection is in generally good condition. A small chip is visible on the rim of the blue and white goblet (photo 1). Surface dirt and dust are present throughout the lot consistent with open shelf storage. Minor kiln defects and shelf-wear typical of handmade studio pottery may be present.
