A collection of vintage hand tools and workshop ephemera primarily of 20th-century British origin, housed in a galvanized metal bucket with a wire swing handle. The group includes a large wooden jack or jointer plane constructed from a dark hardwood, possibly beech, with a metal iron and wooden wedge. A manual hand drill is included, featuring a yellow-painted circular gear housing, a black-painted handle, and a metal chuck containing a small drill bit. The assortment further comprises a metal rotary leather hole punch with multiple sized tubes on a revolving head, a cylindrical wooden mallet head, and various other wooden handles and striking tools. Also present are a pair of metal snips with red-coated handles, a pair of metal spring-joint calipers or dividers, and a tool with a green-painted wooden handle. The ephemera includes a rectangular lithographed cigarette tin with a graphic of a sailing ship and text reading SENIOR SERVICE THE PERFECTION OF CIGARETTES. A smaller, heavily rusted rectangular utility tin and a dark, rectangular sharpening stone, possibly oilstone, complete the lot.
Condition report:
The items are in as-found workshop condition showing signs of heavy use. Significant surface oxidation and rust are visible on almost all metal components, including the drill chuck (photo 3), the rotary punch (photo 1), and the metal shears (photo 2). The wooden handles exhibit wear, staining, and minor cracking consistent with age (photo 1). The Senior Service tin shows surface corrosion, paint loss, and rusting to the lid (photo 3). The secondary utility tin is heavily rusted throughout (photo 3). The galvanized bucket shows surface wear and oxidation (photo 1). The working status of the mechanical tools is untested.
