A vintage Scalextric model motor racing slot car set housed in its original expanded polystyrene inner tray and cardboard outer carton. The set is constructed from black plastic track with steel rails and includes two plastic speed controllers in red and black, alongside various accessories. The two hand-held plunger-style speed controllers are embossed with the Scalextric name. The lot includes approximately six curved track sections, a crossover straight section, a power straight section, and red plastic track piers. An original instruction booklet is present, with the cover reading SCALEXTRIC Model Motor Racing. A yellow adhesive warning label attached to the power cable provides wiring instructions, including the text BROWN TO SMALL PIN and BLUE TO SMALL PIN. The brown cardboard shipping carton features handwritten ink text reading SMITH and a date that appears to be 12-6-73. This lot includes two incomplete cars consisting of chassis and motors; the upper bodies are missing.
Condition report:
The set exhibits significant signs of age and use. The metal rails on the track sections show visible surface oxidation and rust (photo 3). The two included cars are incomplete, missing their upper body shells and leaving the internal wiring and motors exposed (photo 3). The electrical wiring for the hand controllers is tangled. The white polystyrene inner tray shows minor chips and staining (photo 1). The outer cardboard box is worn with visible creasing, edge wear, and residual adhesive tape (photo 2). The electrical functionality of the set has not been tested.
