A collection of die-cast metal model cars from the Shell Classic Sportscar Collection, produced for the Shell petrol station promotional series. The lot includes various sports car models constructed with die-cast metal bodies, plastic interiors, and free-wheeling wheels. The group features several boxed examples in original cardboard window display packaging, including models of a Ferrari 288 GTO, Porsche 911 SC, Porsche 959, Lotus Esprit, Mercedes-Benz 500 SL, BMW Z1, and a Lamborghini Diablo. The packaging is decorated with the yellow and red Shell pecten logo and bears the printed text CLASSIC SPORTSCAR COLLECTION. Several loose models are also included, featuring a Ferrari F40, two Jaguar E-Type V12 examples, and an MG RV8. The cars are finished in a variety of period-correct colours, including red, silver, black, and racing green. Individual model names are printed on the lower tabs of the yellow and white display boxes.
Condition report:
The die-cast models appear generally complete, though significant dust accumulation is visible across the collection, particularly on the loose Ferrari F40 and Jaguar models (photo 4). The original packaging shows varying degrees of wear including creasing, edge wear, and crushed corners to the cardboard (photos 1 and 4). The plastic windows on several boxes, notably the Lotus Esprit and Mercedes-Benz models, exhibit yellowing, surface staining, and in some instances have partially detached from the cardboard frames (photo 1). One Lotus Esprit model is stored upside down within its box (photo 2). General foxing and surface marking are present on the white portions of the Mercedes and Ferrari packaging (photo 3).
