This lot comprises one large circular presentation tray or charger, constructed from a yellow metal alloy with a polished brass finish to the front and a patinated copper-tone reverse. The tray features extensive hand-hammered and chased decoration organised into concentric bands. The central medallion contains a geometric interlaced quatrefoil, surrounded by a band of eight circular vignettes alternating between stylised six-petaled flowers and calligraphic panels. A wide outer register is decorated with a repeating motif of camels and stylised human figures interspersed with pseudo-calligraphic symbols. The raised rim is finished with a scalloped edge. The calligraphic elements appear to be decorative pseudo-script rather than readable text. No maker’s marks, hallmarks, or signatures are visible on either the front or the reverse of the object.
Condition report:
The front surface shows minor surface scratches, small pits, and areas of uneven tarnish consistent with handling (photo 1). The reverse shows significant overall dark oxidation and patination, with scattered light-coloured spots and mineral deposits (photo 3). There are no visible losses to the metal, structural repairs, or major dents breaking the circular form.
