A mid-19th-century work table, possibly of British origin, constructed from solid mahogany with a rich reddish-brown patina. The rectangular top features rounded corners and is supported by a single, faceted octagonal tapering central column. This column sits upon a quadraform platform base with incurved sides, terminating in four scroll feet. The frieze contains a single drawer, fitted with small turned decorative drops at the front corners. The drawer interior is constructed of a secondary wood and retains an internal lock mechanism. A lock plate is visible to the front, although it is missing its decorative escutcheon and any text present on the plate is not legible. This lot comprises the table only; the furniture and textiles visible in the background of the images are not included.
Condition report:
The mahogany top shows significant surface wear, including multiple scratches, small indentations, and visible ring marks consistent with age and use (photo 1). A prominent horizontal split or deep scratch is visible across the centre-right of the table top (photo 4). The quadraform base and scroll feet exhibit various scuffs and small chips to the wood at the edges (photo 5). The drawer sits slightly unevenly when closed and the keyhole escutcheon is missing (photo 1). The finish shows general signs of fading and wear, particularly to the top surface (photo 2).
