A Victorian hand-coloured wood engraving featuring a multi-view composition of Plymouth, England. The central large panel provides a panoramic view of Plymouth from Mount Edgcumbe, surrounded by smaller inset vignettes of local landmarks including Bedford Street, the Municipal Buildings, George Street, the Provision Market, Plymouth from Mount Batten, Old Abbey and St. Andrew’s Church, The Hoe, and the Breakwater Lighthouse. The lower section features a wide-angle scene of figures in Victorian dress promenading on the Hoe. The print is housed in a polished wooden frame with a gold-toned inner slip under glass. A white adhesive label on the reverse reads: ORIGINAL HAND COLOURED WOOD ENGRAVING PUBLISHED FOR THE ILLUSTREATED LONDON NEWS IN 1882 REPAIR TO CENTRE FOLD £65. Below this, a gold and black adhesive label states: This is a Genuine ANTIQUARIAN PRINT Guaranteed OVER 100 YEARS OLD. The lower margin of the print includes printed captions numbered 1 to 11 corresponding to the various views.

Condition report:

The engraving exhibits a central vertical fold line consistent with its original publication as a double-page spread (photo 1). There is evidence of a professional repair to this centre fold as noted on the verso label. Mild toning and light foxing are visible across the sheet, particularly in the sky areas of the central and upper panels (photo 2). The hand-colouring remains generally bright. The wooden frame shows minor surface abrasions and dust accumulation but remains structurally sound. The glazing is intact.
