A collection of storage pieces comprising a wooden Union Case, a leather suitcase, and a dark-stained wooden chest, along with various personal contents. The Union Case is a shallow rectangular wooden container with a polished finish and a brass escutcheon on the lid, stamped UNION CASE L on the front edge; it contains Masonic regalia including a light blue and white moiré silk apron with silver-tone tassels, a King George VI silver-tone medal, and a Royal Masonic Institution for Girls Steward’s enamel badge dated 1962. The second item is a vintage brown leather suitcase featuring a reinforced handle and twin brass lever locks, with an interior black oval label reading FIBRE BRITISH MAKE FOUNDATION. The third item is a dark-stained wooden chest with a metal D-handle, containing religious texts such as a Holy Bible, Common Prayer, and Daily Light on the Daily Path, alongside local ephemera including a Plymouth High School for Girls Speech Day program from 1962.
Condition report:
The Union Case shows minor surface marks but retains a clean red velvet interior (photo 3). The leather suitcase exhibits heavy wear, with significant scuffing, darkening of the leather, and abrasions to the edges and corners (photo 4). The interior lining of the suitcase shows staining and some lifting (photo 5). The dark-stained wooden chest has heavy surface scratches and chips to the finish (photo 6). The contained books show significant shelf wear, with some frayed spines and a detached cover on the purple-bound volume (photo 7). The Masonic apron and medals appear to be in good order, stored within their original protective tissue and boxes (photo 3).
