A collection of silver-plated tablewares and decorative objects featuring various styles of engraving and form. The group includes a four-piece tea and coffee service comprising a teapot, a coffee or hot water pot, and a cream jug, each decorated with chased and engraved foliate and scroll motifs surrounding central cartouches. Also included is a three-branch candelabrum with scrolled arms and a stepped circular base, alongside a seven-bar toast rack featuring a foliate engraved base. The collection further contains a cut-glass bowl with a pierced silver-plated frame and swing handle, a set of circular coasters in a wirework rack, a small sugar scuttle with a scoop, and novelty items including a dolphin-shaped figure and a swan-shaped dish. A silver-plated picture frame with an embossed border and red fabric backing is present, as is a small circular tray with engraved geometric patterns and a set of serving tongs. The items are constructed from base metal with silver plating, showing some areas of base metal bleed-through. No legible maker’s names are visible on the surfaces of these pieces.
Condition report:
The collection exhibits significant surface tarnish and oxidation across most pieces (photo 1). There is extensive wear to the silver plating with visible base metal bleed-through, most notably on the central column of the candelabrum (photo 2), the bodies of the tea and coffee pots (photo 3), and the small circular tray (photo 4). Small spots of green verdigris corrosion are present on the surface of the circular tray (photo 4). Minor surface scratches and scuffs consistent with age and domestic use are visible throughout the group.
