A coastal landscape watercolor by C.N. Smith depicting a village scene, The work illustrates traditional stone architecture and a harbour populated with small vessels under a light-overcast sky. The composition is executed in a realist style with a palette of muted greens, browns, and blues. The lower-left corner bears a hand-painted signature and date in dark pigment reading C.N. SMITH, 90. The watercolor is presented in a multi-layered mount with a dark brown inner border and a light beige outer mat, housed within an oak-effect wooden frame. The reverse of the frame is sealed with brown paper tape and features a green-bordered oval framer’s label from Q Framers with blank fields for glass, moulding, and mountboard references. A small white adhesive label on the glazing carries the handwritten code R1332C.
Condition report:
The watercolor appears to be in good overall condition with no visible signs of foxing, water damage, or significant fading to the pigments (photo 1). There is a slight ripple to the paper consistent with the watercolor medium and mounting. The mount and glazing are clean. The oak-effect frame shows no major losses or structural damage. The reverse sealing tape is intact (photo 3).
