A collection of sterling silver items comprising a cased christening set, a pair of trumpet-shaped bud vases, and a silver-mounted miniature prayer book. The christening set consists of a two-piece spoon and fork set featuring terminals decorated with stylized leaf and scroll motifs, the knife appears to be missing, with the initials AML engraved to the front. The reverse of the stems bear the impressed marks J.D over & over S for James Deakin & Sons, alongside a crown, a lion passant, and a lowercase Gothic-style letter k, indicating Sheffield, 1902. The pair of bud vases are designed with fluted rims, tapering bodies, and lobed trefoil-style weighted bases; they are stamped near the rim with W.C for William Comyns & Sons, a lion passant, and a capital letter O for London, 1909. The bases are impressed with a registered design number RD 387293. The miniature prayer book, titled The Order for Morning Prayer, features a silver front cover decorated in repoussé with five cherub heads among clouds, framed by an Art Nouveau scrolling border. The right side of the silver mount bears the marks L & B for Levi & Salaman, a lion passant, an anchor for Birmingham, and a lowercase letter a for 1900.
Condition report:
The christening set shows minor surface scratches and light tarnish consistent with age; it is housed in a black leatherette case with a cream silk and black velvet interior and is missing the knife (photo 2). The pair of bud vases exhibit minor surface wear, tarnish, and small indentations to the fluted rims (photo 4). The silver-mounted prayer book shows significant wear; the silver cover is detached from the leather binding (photo 6), and the internal pages are yellowed with frayed edges (photo 6). There is visible wear to the high points of the repoussé work on the silver mount (photo 5).
