This lot comprises a canteen of Ashberry 18/8 stainless steel flatware and a separate cased set of six silver plated tea knives. The main service features a minimalist Mid-Century Modern design with handles that possess a subtle central ridge and pointed terminals. The flatware is marked on the handles with a linear impressed mark reading ASHBERRY 18/8 ENGLAND. The set includes several dinner knives, forks, soup spoons, and dessert spoons, along with two napkin rings and serving pieces. An adhesive black and white circular label is present inside the case, reading MEMBER OF THE CUTLERY AND SILVERWARE MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION and BRITISH MADE with a Union Jack device. A separate black and white paper tag reads THE DESIGN CENTRE LONDON. The collection is housed in a wooden canteen with a hinged lid, featuring an orange felt and cream satin-lined interior and a brass-tone handle. The second set consists of six tea knives with flared, rounded handles in a traditional style. These are housed in a separate, smaller black textured case with a blue velvet and white satin-lined interior.
Condition report:
The stainless steel flatware appears in good condition with minor surface scratching and cloudiness to the metal finish consistent with light use (photo 1). The wooden canteen shows minor exterior scuffing and small marks to the finish (photo 4). The smaller black leatherette case for the tea knives exhibits significant wear, with fraying and loss to the material at the corners and along the edges (photo 5). The interior lining of both cases remains vibrant, though the white satin in the knife case shows light discolouration (photo 1).
