This collection comprises an assortment of silver and silver-plated flatware and serving pieces in various styles, including several items in the Fiddle pattern. The group includes multiple pieces of British sterling silver with identifiable hallmarks. These include a Birmingham spoon dated 1839 with the maker’s mark for William J. Holmes and John Hawley, and another Birmingham spoon dated 1845 bearing the maker’s mark W.E, attributed to William Eaton. Further hallmarked pieces include an item dated 1836 with the maker’s mark W.G over J.L for William Gorsuch and John Law, and a piece from Birmingham dated to approximately 1830 or 1854 with the maker’s mark J and W. Many of these sterling items feature the monarch’s head duty mark and the lion passant standard mark. The remainder of the collection consists of silver-plated items, including those marked EPNS A1. Specific utensils of note include a marrow scoop with an ornately chased handle, a dinner fork, and a small trowel-shaped server by Thomas Gadsby and Sons featuring a turned wooden handle. The lot also contains two decorative souvenir spoons with enamelled crests, including one for Bad Ischl, and a small caddy-style spoon with a blue and white ceramic insert. Several pieces are engraved with monograms on the handles.


Condition report:

The collection is in varied condition, showing signs of age and regular use. There is significant tarnishing throughout the lot, accompanied by surface scratches and some pitting. The silver-plated items show varying degrees of wear to the plating. The wooden handle on the trowel server shows minor age-related wear.
