This collection comprises three distinct categories of items. The first category includes two mid-20th-century British wooden scientific instrument cases. One box is fitted with a rectangular brass maker plate inscribed W. & J. George & Becker Ltd. Gt. Charles Street Birmingham, 3 Hatton Wall London, E.C.1. featuring the Nivoc diamond trademark. The second box bears a black and silver metal label for Griffin & George Limited, marked Made in Gt. Britain. Both are constructed from hardwood with dovetailed corner joints, brass hinges, and twin flip-latch fasteners. The interiors have been largely stripped of their original laboratory contents but retain some internal wooden supports.
The second category features a vintage brown leather-bound rectangular carrying case. The lid is gold-stamped with the monogram H.G. to the centre. It is equipped with a top-mounted leather handle and twin metal latches with keyholes. The interior is lined with black velvet and contains a light blue fabric roll-up insert.
The third category is a wrought iron stand of curved form. The structure consists of six vertical ribs joined by a central cross-braced frame, with each rib terminating in an outward-turning scrolled finial. Its design is suitable for use as a log cradle or a support for large circular objects.
Condition report:
The scientific instrument boxes show age-related wear including surface scratches, scuffs, and loss to the original varnish. The brass hardware is functional but shows surface oxidation and tarnish. The leather carrying case displays significant scuffing and wear, particularly to the edges and corners. The leather handle is heavily distressed with visible cracking. The wrought iron stand shows uniform surface oxidation and rust throughout but remains structurally sound with no visible breaks to the joints.
