A solid elm trestle-base coffee table by John Trippas of Woodturners, Modbury, South Devon. The bench is constructed from a thick single-plank top with naturalistic live-edge undulating sides and ends. The robust trestle base comprises two shaped standards with a flared profile, connected by a central stretcher. This stretcher is secured using traditional tusk tenon joinery, featuring visible tenons pegged through the upright standards. The wood displays a prominent swirling grain and warm honey-brown tones characteristic of elm, finished with a glossy clear lacquer.
Condition report:
The bench is in overall good condition. The top surface shows light scattered scratches and minor indentations consistent with age and use. One of the upright standards exhibits some small dark spots or pitting near its base. The joinery remains tight and stable throughout.
