Sold

A collection of porcelain and earthenware elephant figurines in naturalistic and modernist styles. The group comprises an assortment of figures ranging from realistic animal studies to highly stylised and anthropomorphic forms. The pieces are primarily constructed from glazed porcelain, bisque porcelain, and earthenware, with one figure appearing to be carved from a multi-coloured stone, possibly soapstone or marble. Decorative finishes throughout the collection include hand-painted floral sprays, blue and white glazes, and gold-toned highlights. One white glazed figure features a polychrome armorial crest depicting a figure holding a sword and scales, representing Justice, above a banner reading ‘ARMS OF’ followed by an illegible place name. The lot also includes a functional teapot in the form of an elephant with floral and figural decoration. No manufacturer backstamps or signatures are visible on the exterior surfaces of the pieces. This lot comprises the figurines only; the shelving and background elements shown in the images are not included.

Condition report:

The figurines generally appear to be in good display condition with no visible structural breaks, missing limbs, or professional repairs across the group (photos 1-4). The glazes remain bright and the bisque surfaces appear clean. Minor manufacturing imperfections or \'flea bites\' common to large groups of small ceramics may be present, though none are readily visible in the cataloguing photographs.
