A collection of eight ceramic commemorative and collector plates presented in their original presentation boxes. The lot includes four Royal Worcester plates from the Great Victorian Achievements series, depicting maritime, railway, and engineering subjects such as the Cutty Sark, Royal Albert Bridge, Tower Bridge, and the Great Northern Railway. Each plate features a central transfer-printed illustration within a wide cobalt blue border decorated with intricate gilt scrollwork. Also included is a Wedgwood Queen’s Ware plate marking the return of Halley’s Comet between 1985 and 1986, a Royal Crown Duchy Millennium plate for the year 2000, and two fine bone china plates commemorating the 400th anniversary of the Spanish Armada between 1588 and 1988.
The Royal Worcester plates are accompanied by certificates of authenticity from the Worcester Royal Porcelain Company signed by directors Richard Harrison or P.C. Stevenson, identifying them as limited edition pieces. The Millennium plate bears a circular backstamp reading GUILD OF ENGLISH MASTER POTTERS ROYAL CROWN DUCHY FINE BONE CHINA ENGLAND. The Armada plates feature a backstamp with a signature that reads G J and the location Coalville England, alongside a logo with the text ARMADA 1588-1988. The Halley’s Comet plate includes an information booklet titled THE HALLEY’S COMET COLLECTION IN QUEEN’S WARE Wedgwood.
Condition report:
The plates appear to be in excellent, unused condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs to the ceramic bodies or gilt decoration (photos 1-11). The presentation boxes show minor signs of shelf wear and age-related scuffing.
