An assortment of decorative metalware including a cased set of twelve fish eaters, a hammered brass tray and three graduated copper scuttles. The fish eater set comprises six knives and six forks featuring silver-plated blades and tines with engraved foliate decoration, fitted with cream-coloured handles possibly made of celluloid. The set is housed in a textured presentation case with a pleated cream fabric lining. The octagonal brass tray features a hammered central well and an embossed foliate scroll rim. The graduated copper scuttles are of helmet form with rolled rims and brass pedestal bases. Each features fixed handles with blue and white floral porcelain grips, attached via cast brass lion-mask bosses. No maker’s marks are legible on any of these items.
Condition report:
The presentation case for the fish eaters shows significant age-related wear, including staining and fraying to the interior fabric and scuffing to the exterior (photo 1). The cutlery handles exhibit typical yellowing, and the silver plating shows minor surface scratches. The brass tray displays overall surface tarnish, oxidation spots, and minor scratching consistent with use (photo 2). The copper scuttles show interior verdigris and oxidation (photo 7). There is surface tarnish and minor denting visible to the copper bodies (photo 6). The porcelain grips appear intact with minor wear around the metal fittings.
