A collection of four antique and vintage silver and silver toned items, comprising a scent bottle, a grooming etui, a decorative cap, and a button hook. The scent bottle is of circular form and features repoussé work depicting two figures in a landscape on one side and a vacant scrolling cartouche on the reverse, with a further figurative medallion to the neck and a suspension chain. The tribal style grooming etui is of wire-wrapped construction and includes five tools, featuring a pair of tweezers, an ear scoop, and three pointed probes suspended from a semi-circular header. The decorative cap is embossed with foliate scrolls in the Rococo style and bears the impressed characters H BROS in a rectangular cartouche, alongside an anchor symbol in a shield, to the base rim. The button hook has a foliate embossed handle stamped with impressed Birmingham hallmarks including a lion passant and an anchor, and the metal shaft is impressed with the word STEEL in block capitals.
Condition report:
The scent bottle exhibits a heavy dark tarnish across both faces, though the relief decoration remains crisp (photo 2). The grooming etui shows a significant overall patina and minor bending to the ends of the suspended tools (photo 5). The decorative cap shows prominent wear to the silver plating with the underlying copper base metal visible across the relief decoration and the base rim (photo 8). The button hook handle has light surface wear and minor tarnish, while the steel shaft shows minor scratches and small areas of surface oxidation consistent with age (photo 9).
