A collection of assorted coins primarily consisting of British and Irish denominations, housed in a vintage cardboard box. The container features a printed decorative label on the lid with a central cartouche reading PRIOR in red capital letters, surrounded by heraldic motifs and golden coins. The assembly includes various British pre-decimal denominations such as half-crowns, florins, and pennies, alongside Irish coinage. Notable examples include multiple British half-crowns featuring the crowned shield reverse inscribed FID DEF IND IMP and HALF CROWN, and florins displaying the portrait of King George VI. An Irish coin is visible showing a harp, the word ÉIRE, and the date 1962. The coins are composed of various materials, appearing to include bronze, cupro-nickel, and potentially silver or silver style alloys. The pieces are loose within the box and show varying degrees of circulation and metallic toning.
Condition report:
The collection is in a circulated state with coins showing varying degrees of wear, ranging from fine to very fine. Several bronze pieces exhibit heavy dark toning and spots of green verdigris (photo 1). The cardboard box shows significant structural wear, with tearing and paper loss at the corners and edges of both the lid and base (photo 1). The printed label remains largely legible but shows surface scuffing and minor staining.
