Estimated price: £26 - £34

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £30

A George III sterling silver sugar sifter spoon, featuring a circular bowl with decorative geometric piercings. The handle is worked in the Old English pattern, decorated with bright-cut engraving along the stem and terminal, which includes a vacant shield-shaped cartouche. The reverse of the handle bears a series of struck hallmarks including the maker mark PP in a rectangular cartouche, a lion passant, an uncrowned leopard’s head, a lowercase Gothic style t, and a sovereign’s profile head facing right. These marks identify the maker as Peter Podio and indicate the item was assayed in London in 1814. The interior of the bowl shows a gilded or high-tarnish finish within the pierced decoration.

Weight: 24g.

Condition report:

The spoon exhibits significant surface tarnish and oxidation, particularly concentrated within the bowl and surrounding the hallmarks on the reverse (photo 2 and 3). There are light surface scratches and minor abrasions throughout consistent with age and domestic use. The pierced work to the bowl remains intact with no visible breaks or historic repairs. The hallmarks are clear and legible.
