Start price: £30

Estimated price: £30 - £40

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £26

A pair of large architectural style metal candlesticks featuring a structural trellis design. Each piece is constructed with a cast metal top and base, connected by twelve slender wrought or machined rods arranged in a geometric, braced pattern reminiscent of Victorian engineering. The rods are joined at the centre by circular spacers and fixed with rivets. The top of each candlestick features a turned socket section above a square plate, with a suspended cast pinecone or acorn-shaped drop finial below. The bases are flared with a stepped, concave profile. The metal has a dark, uniform patinated finish. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the external surfaces of these objects.

Condition report:

The pair shows signs of surface oxidation and age-related wear. There is visible rust and corrosion to the central joining rivets and within the top candle sockets (photo 2). The dark finish displays scattered scuffing, minor losses, and dust accumulation throughout. One rod on the central trellis of one candlestick appears slightly bent or misaligned at the joining point (photo 4).
