Sold for: £30
A traditional oak side or occasional table constructed in the Jacobean Revival style. The piece features a rectangular solid oak top with a recessed border decorated with hand-carved stylized foliate fan motifs. The table stands on four barley-twist legs, also known as Solomonic columns, which are joined by a low-set rectangular H-frame stretcher. The legs terminate in simple turned feet. The wood is finished with a dark stain that highlights the natural oak. No manufacturer stamps, signatures, or maker labels are visible on the underside or frame of the piece.
Condition report:
The table is in sound structural condition. There are visible surface scratches and minor scuffs to the central uncarved area of the tabletop (photo 1). Localised wear and thinning to the dark finish are evident along the edges of the top (photo 2) and on the lower stretchers (photo 5). The barley-twist legs and feet show small indentations and light abrasions consistent with use (photo 4). Accumulations of dust and debris are present within the deep recesses of the carved border (photo 2). No major splits or repairs are visible to the timber.
