Estimated price: £10 - £20

Sold for: £14

A pair of decorative walking sticks featuring cast yellow metal handles in the form of animals. The set comprises two canes: one with a handle shaped as a bird or duck head, and the other featuring a horse head with a detailed mane and facial features. The handles appear to be made of brass or a similar yellow metal alloy. The shafts are constructed from dark reddish-stained hardwood, possibly mahogany style, and are designed in sections joined by brass-toned metal collars. Each cane is finished with a black rubber ferrule at the base. No maker’s marks, signatures, or hallmarks are visible on the metalwork or the wooden shafts.

Condition report:

Both canes exhibit surface wear consistent with use and age. The brass bird-headed handle shows surface scratching and areas of oxidation (photo 2). The horse-headed handle displays typical surface wear and patination (photo 2). Both wooden shafts have minor surface scuffs and visible wear to the stained finish, particularly adjacent to the metal joining collars (photo 1). The black rubber ferrules appear intact with some signs of ground contact (photo 1).
