The second volume is a thick quarto Bible printed by George E. Eyre and William Spottiswoode, Printers to the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, for Griffith and Farran, Corner of St. Paul’s Churchyard, London. Condition report:
The Illustrated National Family Bible shows significant wear to the leather extremities, particularly the spine and corners, with scuffing and rubbing to the decorative elements (photo 1). The brass furniture remains present. The smaller quarto Bible exhibits heavy rubbing and wear to the leather at the spine and edges, with visible signs of leather deterioration or red rot in places (photo 2). The internal plates show some age-toning and minor foxing but remain generally clean and legible (photos 3 and 4). Both volumes retain their original brass clasps, though the leather straps show significant wear.
